“We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Wearing lashes in Middle School, all my friends wore lashes. It wasn't the simple lashes, it was the dramatic ones, thick and long lashes, and I wanted to wear them because everyone else was, even though my mom was against wearing lashes during my Middle School years. I still wore lashes; they were heavy and ugly, but I came to realize that, as I got older, the thick, long lashes did not look good for me. Big is not always good; sometimes being simple can go a long way, so I stopped wearing lashes and found a better way to wear lashes that still gives me the look I want.

Summary: Read a poem I, Too by Langston Hughes

Today, you learned how to complete a rhetorical analysis planning guide step by step, from identifying the rhetorical situation to analyzing devices and effects. Reflect on one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped you understand the process more clearly. Explain what you learned during that step and how it improved your ability to analyze a speaker’s message.

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).
